Up for some fun exploring Bali’s rivers?

Bali’s warm climate and natural beauty make it a perfect location to enjoy rafting (sorry, children under 6 are not permitted).

You’ll be picked up from your villa and driven in air-conditioned comfort to your destination. Waterproof bags are supplied for belongings and at the end of the trip you can recover with a shower. So, pack suncreen, shorts or bathers, a change of clothing and a towel. Rubber soled lace up shoes are important – helmets and life jackets are supplied.

You’ll most likely be rafting with an experienced guide in a World White Water Rafting Association approved Avon raft, with safety hand ropes, and toe-cups

There are three rivers options to choose from, each has its own challenges. The Telaga-Waja River is suitable for people who are physically fit, whilst the Ayung and Melangit Rivers will provide a fun day for those looking for a slightly easier day.

Ayung River

The Ayung River is Bali’s longest waterway and is a popular river with many of the local rafting companies. The start of the trip is approximately one hour’s drive from villas in Nusa Dua, Kuta and Sanur. The 11 kilometre run is a class II to III rating, so it is suitable for beginners and if you don’t want to test your fitness. The route includes several short drops and 27 sets of rapids. It trip lasts about 90 minutes and winds through steep gorges with cascading waterfalls and a picturesque tropical rain forest.

Telaga-Waja River

Whilst more challenging than the Ayung and suitable only for people who are physically fit this river is a lot of fun. The rafting course begins at the foot of Mount Agung, an active volcano, and is a continuous 10 kilometre stretch of hairpin and whitewater bends. You will get soaked as you work your way though waterfalls and ends with a hair-raising 4 metre drop at Bajing Dam. Transfer time from Denpasar is about 90 minutes, and rafting is approximately two hours.

Melangit River

This is a challenging river, sharp bends and more than 30 rapids with drops of between 1 to 4 metres. The river, like the Ayung, is classed as a II to III, but it can ramp up to level IV during the rainy season between October and March. The II to III level is suitable for rafters of intermediate skill, at level IV you will need to be physically fit and have some prior experience. The river starting point is 45-minute journey from Denpasar, and the course runs through a gorgeous rain forest canyon, with steep cliff sides and lots of waterfalls.
